Will I need to register my chip?

Most pet hospitals and clinics expect you to register your chip when you get home, and some microchip companies add a fee for registration. Studies show that as much as 80% of pet owners forget to register their microchip. Buying a microchip from us ensures your pet has the best chance of being found.
What is a pet microchip?
A microchip is a permanent form of identification. A microchip contains a number that can be registered to your pet. The number is read using a special “reader” or scanner that can be used to identify your dog or cat at a veterinary hospital or clinic. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected by a veterinarian underneath the pet’s skin, usually between the dog or cat's shoulder blades. The insertion process is similar to administering a vaccination and only takes a few seconds. Insertion of the microchip does not require anesthesia or sedation.
How does a pet microchip work?
HomeAgain microchips are designed to last your pet’s entire lifetime, and once enrolled, they link to a permanent record of your owner information. Your microchip comes with a personal listing in the HomeAgain lost pet database, and this translates to anytime/anywhere pet recovery services. Over 50,000 vets and animal shelters across the country are equipped with scanners that can read your pet’s microchip. So, HomeAgain members can breathe a little easier knowing their lost cat or dog can be identified whether he’s 3 or 3,000 miles away from home.
Your pet’s microchip ID code, just like your pet, is one of a kind. When your lost pet is taken to an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, they will scan your pet for a microchip and will read its unique code. This code is stored with your pet’s profile and linked to your contact information in the HomeAgain pet database—forever.
After your pet’s microchip ID is scanned, you’ll receive a call from HomeAgain about his whereabouts. Rest assured that your listing in their pet database is exclusive to your pet. When you receive a call from HomeAgain, it is because your pet has been scanned. HomeAgain offers personalized and distinctive pet protection services, and protecting your best friend is what they do best.
Keeping your pet’s profile up to date—especially with your current contact information and a recent photo of your pet—is one of the best ways to protect your pet. HomeAgain members have unlimited access to log in and update their pet profile at HomeAgain.com.
